From what i've seen so far they always "safely detonate" these devices. Now the're taking X-rays and pictures and put them on internet? Looks like the're made of plastic, thin metal wires inside appear darker. Outer wires appear much thicker then inner wires like wire insulation was made of metal as well. Also it appears there is a timing device which appears mostly transparent, consistent with being made of plastic. On a timer, it was safe to open them and call... whatever. Who had enough time to take pictures, X-rays...
